Take to the Water with Hobbs of Henley this summer

No summer in Henley is complete without a trip on the river! From relaxing sightseeing cruises to private charters with fizz and friends, Hobbs of Henley has something for everyone. Our luxurious self-drive boats are perfect for families or small groups looking to explore at their own pace, or you can sit back and enjoy the view aboard one of our popular public cruises.

Looking for something extra special? Try one of our themed events—our Sunset Dance Cruise and Afternoon Tea Cruises are local favourites, or why not step into the world of murder mystery with our unique Midsomer Murders Afternoon Tea Cruise (more on that below!).

The biggest summer event in Henley: Henley Royal Regatta

A highlight of the British social calendar, the Henley Royal Regatta (early July) brings international rowing talent, elegant outfits, and a buzzing riverside atmosphere to the town. Even if you’re not watching the races, the whole area comes alive with music, food, and floating parties.

Ever been to a Black Tie Music Festival?

Just days after the Regatta, the Henley Festival takes over the riverside with five nights of black tie entertainment, headlining acts, art installations, pop up restaurants, and fireworks. It’s glamorous, eclectic, and totally unique.

Explore the Riverside and Meadows in Henley-on-Thames

Mill Meadows is a popular summer spot for families and picnic lovers. Bring a blanket, a book, and a bite to eat, and enjoy a lazy afternoon watching the boats glide past. Or walk a stretch of the Thames Path and take in the natural beauty of the Chilterns AONB that surrounds the town. Don’t forget to pop into the River & Rowing Museum for a bit of local heritage along the way and enjoy The Wind in the Willows experience.

Alfresco Dining & Drinks – where to go in Henley this summer

From riverside pubs to hidden courtyards, Henley offers plenty of places to enjoy a drink or meal outdoors. The Angel on the Bridge, The Relais, and a host of independent cafes (our favourite riverside café is Viv’s Cafe ) all offer fantastic options for soaking up the sunshine while enjoying the best of local food and drink.

Visit Stonor Park & Greys Court

Henley is surrounded by some truly beautiful country estates that are well worth a visit in the summer months. Stonor Park offers landscaped gardens, a deer park, and a brilliant adventure playground for children, as well as seasonal events and historic house tours.

Greys Court, a National Trust gem just a short drive away, is equally lovely, with its romantic walled gardens, ancient ruins, and tranquil woodland walks, it’s an idyllic place to while away a sunny afternoon.

Step into the World of Midsomer Murders

Did you know Henley has been the backdrop for numerous episodes of Midsomer Murders? The charming streets, quirky pubs, and picturesque countryside all make perfect filming locations for the iconic detective series.

For super fans and curious sleuths alike, our Midsomer Murders Afternoon Tea Cruise aboard The Waterman is a must do experience. Sail past actual filming locations, enjoy a delicious afternoon tea, and hear fascinating behind-the-scenes stories from our onboard Midsomer expert. It’s murderously good fun!
